A very easy read coverage of Primary level Maths. Presented in good bite size sections and with fun games that even my daughter (Yr4)enjoyed. She doesn't usually enjoy much maths initiated by her parents!! We all enjoyed the humorous child test sheet answers. A great informative read.

An enjoyable reminder of things you'd probably forgotten, 2009-11-06
This is a terrific book - well-written, well-presented, extensive, useful and enjoyable. It also serves as a nice helping of nostalgia with its authentic cloth-bound cover, 'stippled' illustration style, and even the choice of paper - all carefully designed to evoke those fading childhood memories of the entire class being told to "turn to page 124".

To match this, the authors affect a somewhat ironic tone tailored to the modern adult reader: professorial and slightly old-fashioned, but with an unmistakable wink in the eye. With its occasional knowing references to modern life such as Google, manbags and growing UK obesity, it's an approach that could have ended up falling flat - but here it works to perfection.

The choice of subject matter is good. The information is clear and easy to digest/recall. You really will be surprised not only at how much you'd forgotten, but also how quickly it all comes flooding back. Just think: that long division was hidden in your memory all this time - along with quadrilaterals, iambic pentameters and the diplodocus!

If you happen to be a parent, this information-packed tome should be a godsend. Even if you're not a parent, get it anyway, as you'll enjoy it regardless. It's become a bit of a cliché to talk about books being "a good present", but this one really is. I notice there's another range of similar titles out there ("I Used To Know That" etc). They're good and less expensive, but considerably smaller and not nearly as comprehensive (or nicely presented) as this one.

Witty and wise, 2009-12-01
I loved the witty, self-deprecating tone of the writing - he sounds like an eccentric uncle. It's such a refreshing antidote to the usual laddish Top Gear tone. Gareth obviously learnt a lot on his MA in Professional Writing at University College Falmouth.
I'm buying this for all my teenaged nephews - I want them to turn out like Gareth!

proper, laugh out loud funny, 2010-01-23
I have three children. I know children, and what this book says about parenting and children is absolutely true. No word of a lie. And that is what makes it so very, very funny. Do not buy it if you want to learn anything practical about breast feeding or weaning or any of that every day stuff, but do read it if you want to know what it's really like bringing up kids. I laughed till I cried it was so funny. And it reflected my life so well I did get slightly paranoid at one point thinking that someone had been spying on me and reporting back to base.

Gerasimos!!!, 2010-01-21
I bought this book for a friend as a Christmas present, but I couldn't help but have a read myself... she has yet to receive it 'cause it's too good to let go. My advice is to buy one for your friend and another for yourself! Gerry seemed to know far too many single girls looking for love with no apparent reason for their relationship status, but after writing this and letting them at it, I imagine they are all now in successful relationships... or affairs... or at least, loving every second along to the way to a more promising future love life!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
