A path through the swamp, 2004-01-21 This book provides a good overview of a vast subject area and is clearly aimed at the more ambitious DIYer. Although some basic knowledge of electrical principles is assumed the content is practical and sensible; there are plenty of clear diagrams, and all the major issues are covered from high-level planning through to low-level installation details. This is a book that boils the complex IEE regs down to the salient points for a straightforward domestic installation. My only criticisms would be that the prose is sometimes a little vague and there are some annoying typos.Whilst I will still need to seek further advice in some more complex areas, at least now Ill know what questions to ask, and will hopefully understand the replies! Overall this book is a solid starting point if youre considering rewiring your house, which is exactly what I wanted.

An excellent book, 2008-06-24 The clear pictures and easy to follow step by step guides were extremely helpful when it came to taking my C&G 2330 Level 3 practical exams. The section on completion of test certificates was particularly good, putting everything into plain language.
I would recommend this book to any trainee electrician.

A must read book for beginners, DIYers & electricians alike., 2006-09-22 I am going through a career change which includes qualifying as a domestic electrician and this book has been vital in preparing myself for the courses i need to take. This is one of the most comprehensive study books i have ever read.
Everything is very clearly and logically laid out, and written in a style which is both easy to read and easy to understand. You do not need to read the book from cover to cover. I have dipped into different subjects and chapters at different times and still the meaning remains clear. The question papers at the end of each chapter are perfect for checking your understanding, making sure that you are learning the important information and not the trivia which has to be included for legal reasons!
Overall, a superb book which can be used as a revision/reference aid for experienced electricians and as a fantastic grounding in the subject for people who are starting out in the trade. Also, DIYers would be very well served by taking the time to read this book in order to fully understand what they should and shouldn't touch and why!

if you want to start electronics from scratch, 2005-11-16 this is a great read. If you have no experience, theoretical or practical, with electronics, but are eager to learn the basics, this is a very good way to start. It is concise, reads very fluently and pleasantly.
