Average rating of 5/5 This book beats them all., 2010-03-10
Very good and spot on revision/preparation material for the UKCAT. Be prepared to be challenged, but also be prepared to learn a lot. This book teaches you lots of techniques that you can use to save time at the exam in all the subtests, so, since time will be your biggest nightmare on the day, it is an extremely valuable tool. Lots of practice questions at all levels of difficulties. The verbal reasoning section is particularly good.

Average rating of 5/5 Very insighful, very good book, 2010-03-10
A very useful and interesting book which takes you in detail through all kinds of questions asked at medical school interviews. Ranging from all those nightmare questions like why medicine and why not nursing, to some common and complex ethical scenarios. It got me in to Manchester med school first time so I would thoroughly recommend it.

Average rating of 5/5 Very good. A must-read for any applicant to medical or surgical training posts, 2009-09-27
This book is the most thorough preparation tool that you will find for CT or ST interviews anywhere. It covers a HUGE range of questions, from personality to ethics and NHS issues in great detail, and gives you simple structures you can use to organise your thoughts. Many questions contain examples to show you what a good answer might sound like, which is useful because it really complements the theory well.

Make sure you allow some time to read the book before your interview because there is a lot to go through, but even if you are close to your interview, the thematic structure of the book means that you can just jump to the chapters that you want straight away.

Average rating of 5/5 Stage 2 exam, 2008-04-25
I found this a useful book, pitched mostly at the same level as the stage 2 exam. The explainations at the back at a bit brief, but it is a good way of testing your knowledge

Average rating of 5/5 Brilliant and comprehensive practice - A real life saver for anyone who wants to excel in Neuropsychiatry medical finals, 2009-08-18
I bought this book on personal recommendation from my neurology consultant. Neuro and psychiatry were never my forte and this books really helped me understand the key principles underlying the questions for both specialties. I found this book very useful for many reasons:

1 - It is the only book that actually looks at those two specialities in depth.
2 - I liked the fact that it combined EMQs and OSCEs in the same place.
3 - The EMQs cover a wide spectrum and there is a wealth of explanations in the answer sections which really helps crystalise your thoughts and takes you through all the important aspects of the syllabus.
4 - More crucially, the book gives you techniques to analyse the questions and spot the key words that you should consider in order to get to the answer quickly. It also has a number of useful mnemonics.
5 - The OSCEs practice scenarios are extremely useful. They include a marking scheme and tips from examiners.

The book was written by people who took the exam and was reviewed by some senior consultants, and it really shows in the extent and accuracy of the information made available, and the depth of coverage.

I would recommend it to anyone who is serious about revising Neuropsychiatry for their finals or any medical exam for that matter.

Average rating of 5/5 Brilliant book with plenty of useful practical advice, 2007-12-20
The first thing that struck me about this book is how thorough the content is. It covers all aspects of Stage 3 in a lot of detail. Because it was written by someone who went through the process, it has a lot of really useful tips that will make a difference on the day. The section on role play is very comprehensive and the practice scenarios are very realistic and useful to go through with colleagues. The most enlightening section was that on group discussions. I wish I had read that book last year when I first applied for GPST! The book takes you through the detail of what is expected of you and shows you well how to make sure that you can work with the other candidates in your group discussion to ensure that you demonstrate a good team approach to problem solving and discussion. The section on task prioritisation is also extremely useful and because the practice exercises show you the different styles that you can be asked, it really prepares you well for what most people see as a very difficult station in the selection centre.

With almost 300 pages, the book is very comprehensive and well worth the investment!

Average rating of 5/5 Excellent aide for stage 3, 2008-04-25
This is a great book to practice with, especially if you have not been able to go on any courses. There is a wide variety of role play scenarios and excellent suggestions on how to approach them. I found it very useful in helping me to prepare for the stage 3 exam.
