This book is useful for practicing the more difficult questions on the paper. There is a good range of questions, and a good number of them. I found that the overall level of this book is more challenging than the majority of the questions on the actual 2008 stage 2 paper, but I think that this book is useful to help get into the higher bandings.

Very informative. Lots of tips and examples, 2010-07-14
I wasn't sure where to start with my personal statement, and being pressed by my school tutors to write a first draft before end of school so that they could review it, and being keen not to appear too illiterate I bought this book to help me put something together. I followed the format and structure recommended and also inspired myself from all the examples given. I was actually complimented by my tutor on the work I'd done!

All in all a very good book which I would recommend to anyone who feels lost when it comes to the personal statement for medical school entry.

Preperation is the key., 2010-06-09
I found this book an excellent aid to preparing for interviews, or should I say assessment centres. Most assessments these days involve 3 stations: a formal old school interview with portfolio review, a clinical viva and an ethical station/presentation station.

I actually used this book for my medical Spr interview, I found it an easy read and as it was question based, it gave me time to reflect upon my own answers. You should consider each question like a station in Paces.

Prepare for every possible question and nothing will make you stumble.

I especially like the structured methods they suggest, its better than rambling on with no purpose and not maximising marks.


Ps. I got my Spr post, and I felt like I owned every question. Dont forget other important things like a great portfolio and good body language.

Undoubtedly the most comprehensive book on medical school interviews, 2010-06-18
The book goes in detail through tons of questions and gives you techniques you can use to think of what to say, how to structure and how to personalise your answers. I loved the fact that they give examples of bad and good answers because I could then see how I could form my own answers to make a good impact. I am starting at St George's med school this autumn and would encourage everyone to get this book to ensure their success.

Pitched exactly at right standard, 2008-02-09
Having just sat the ST exam earlier today, I can honestly say this book is worth every penny. It's pitched at exactly the right level - the questions are laid out in the same format as the exam and cover very similar topics. The explanations are also very thorough and mean that you don't really need to 'read around' the questions in other text books. Don't bother with the older books in this series- they're not the same format and are much harder than the actual exam. But I wholly recommend this book and the EMQ book in the same series. Good luck!
