Average rating of 5/5 Blow your mind, 2010-08-31
Ask anyone why they don't believe in God, the chances are it's because they cannot reconcile a world of unspeakable pain and suffering with a God who, according to the Bible, is supposed to 'love' them. We've ALL asked those questions - why couldn't an 'all powerful' God not protect an innocent child from harm? How could he allow an evil child molester to live?

'The Shack' may not provide an absolute answer to these questions, but it confronts them and deals with them head on, instead of ignoring them, like many who profess a faith in Jesus Christ (myself included).

If you ever thought that being a Christian was merely a crutch for the weak and feeble minded, 'The Shack' should make you think again. It may be a work of fiction, but it brings timeless Scriptural truths to life.

Average rating of 5/5 Very Funny and Well Written, 2010-08-31
I brought this as an anniversary present for the man in my life... he is not a great reader but enjoys light hearted stuff and with chapters on invading the Isle of Wight and Eatting your Best Mate I knew this would be right up his street...

James has chosen a number of things that interest him as well as the silly (steam trains, music) and provides hints and tips for the modern man including the use of cover bands to aid in your escape from butlins...

It is not the most densely typed book you will buy this year and there are a lot of well placed diagrams and pictures which break the text up even further.... so a good pick up and flick through book...

And you never know when you will need to challenge someone to a dual if they spill their pint on you in the pub

Average rating of 5/5 Genuinely life saving, 2010-09-06
Ok... Where do I start. If I could go on national TV at PRIME time and promote this book, then I would. This is quite literally not just the best book I have ever read, but simply the best thing I have ever discovered. I wish I could actually meet Eckhart Tolle just so I could give him a hug.

He speaks about how virtually all of us are dominated by our thoughts; be it fears, desires, anything which doesn't involve truly living in the moment. This book (or should I say the author - having watched him on youtube and so forth) has taught me how to live... but when I use the word 'live', I mean it quite literally, as in, having the ability to get out of my head WITHOUT DRUGS OR ALCOHOL OR SOME OTHER STIMULANT LIKE MOST PEOPLE and be so totally and utterly in the moment without any thoughts. I understand myself now better than I ever have. It makes me smile everytime I either get angry or create a new want or "need" in my life, as it is so obviously unecessary.

Ever since finishing the book I quite simply have not stopped recommending it to people, even random people who I meet when am out! It has become a topic of conversation. You probably think I am going over the top but this has done nothing but change my life in the best way imaginable. Eckhart has made me realise I have everything I could ever need and more. Life for me now is simply enjoyment. BLOODY GET IT.

Average rating of 5/5 It really works and it is motivating, 2010-09-10
After trying very few diet (I am not keen on them) I finally liked this one as I am never (yes never) hungry. I eat when I want from a huge selection of food. I was scared at it first as cheese is not on the menu for the first 2 phases but I am really not missing any of the food I was use to it. I have been on the diet for now a month and lost a total of 1 stone. It went slower in the middle as I was invited to a wedding and I had foods I shouldn't have had and drunk a bit of wine which is not really allowed. The book says you can drink some wine if it is a must for you but don't be surprised if the pounds don't drop. If you have very low motivation in dieting try this one because it works. The really great thing about loosing a stone is that I am back to the clothes that I kept in my cupboard for the past 2 years and I am now able to wear them again, and that makes me smile :-).

Average rating of 5/5 profound insight into domestic violence..., 2010-09-06
As ever, Jodi Picoult weaves a compulsive spell that draws the reader into a complex emotional fairy tale marriage....with an undercurrent of domestic abuse and violence. What I love about Picoult's work is that she doesn't reduce or simplify intensely complex issues and leaves her readers wrestling and personally challenged!! I took it on holiday and couldn't put it down....addicted as ever!

Average rating of 5/5 Great Read, 2010-09-09
I loved this book and would seriously recommend it. I thought the dynamics between the characters were so real and you are totally able to relate to them and their situations. Dexter's vanity and downfall were so realistic, I definitely know people like that. His kind of arrogance and entitlement are offputting but at the same time charismatic. Dexter's inner dialogue and struggle to reconcile his desire to be good and deserving of the few people he truly loved (his mother and Emma) with his desire to just live without thought of consequences to his actions at that time managed to build a recognisible character. Knowing that Dexter had some kind of conscious and could feel remorse but his weakness for his compulsive desires made him understandable.

Overall, the characters were very honest, in their actions and their dialogue. There's a point when Dexter tells Emma that he really truly loves her but he just wants to jump every girl he sees regardless, and he's not sure how to get past that. The love between Dexter and Emma was also something that the reader can relate to just loving someone but not being able to figure out how to get to a place where it will work or is reciprocated. Great book!
