Excellent and manageable map, 2010-05-23
The map proved robust, manageable in size and easy to read compared to OS maps by dividing the Path into manegeable chunks.

It also contains more camping/hostel and other accommodation information than the equivalent OS Map which was particularly useful in my case when having to change my plan and found a nearby bunkhouse which was not on the OS Map

When I walked the Path I took both this and the equivalent OS map but found myself using the Harvey map more.

Only one minor criticism is that the map really zones in on the route and does not provide sufficient mapping either side of the route which would be a great help as camp sites and B&B's were frustratingly just outside its mapping zone. One could say it would make the map larger like the OS equivalent but there is sufficient room on the Harvey map just to expand the mapping a bit more.

Having said that, it is an essential piece of kit for anyone withing the walk the Path.

Excellent map - OS levels of detail, but highly durable & practical, 2010-06-14
This is a top-notch map, similar in detail to an OS map, but infinitely more user-friendly and durable. When opened out with just one fold (eg showing the full map on front & reverse) it is slightly larger than a broadsheet newspaper - so a good manageable size. It is laid out in sections to traverse the 100 miles of the South Downs way. It is made from polyethylene, and feels like plasticised paper with a silky finish. It is extremely strong, hard to tear even deliberately (!), and shows no signs of wear where it is repeatedly folded. It shrugs off water and looks like it would withstand very heavy use even in bad weather. A lot of thought and nice touches have gone into the layout and design to make it a really practical and helpful map for the user. Important information is highlighted clearly, and when you switch from one panel to the next there are clear markers to take you from the equivalent points on one section to the next. There is also plenty of overlapping detail at the start and finish of each panel so you don't need to jump back and forwards between sections.

Overall, this is hard to fault. It would be helpful if the distance markers used on the large-scale summary map were repeated on the detailed sections, but this is a small point. Overall it packs a lot of information into a practical, durable, easy-to use map that isn't going to let you down in tough conditions. I'm very impressed and will actively seek out maps from Harvey in preference to any other map, and certainly the very poor OS maps that tear at the folds and disintegrate in rain.

Simply the Best, 2009-02-22
If you want the best you sometimes have to pay for it. If you are thinking of doing Britains greatest mountain challenge, the magnificent Skye ridge, or climbing/scrambling some of those beautiful and distinctive peaks, then this is the map to have. Dont settle for less. The weather on Skye is fickle at the best of times and as has already been mentioned a compass can be unreliable. It is all too easy to get lost during inclement weather. When your life is at stake there can be no compromise. As you have navigated this far you may be aware of Harveys. They operate to a niche market of serious walkers and climbers who demand that little bit extra. Much as I admire OS Explorer maps, Harveys has them beat for sheer detail. If you take preparation and risk assessment as seriously as I do then choose this map. Dont make sacrifices with the most important items!!

This is the one that lives in my rucksack., 2010-06-27
There is a lot to recommend this. It is incredibly tough and lightweight, perfect for taking on the hills in bad weather, which does terrible damage to traditional maps, even when kept in a map case.. It covers pretty well all the Lake District, barring some fringe areas, and the detail is good enough for most purposes. The additional benefit for climbers is that virtually all the climbing crags are marked.

There are obvious pros and cons to the scale used. You might need a greater level of detail, in which case take a 1:25,000. The biggest pro is that when navigating in the hill I can cover a bigger area on one fold, and the level of detail is relevant to hill walking and climbing.

Ridgeway map, 2010-06-05
Excellent map, with another we cycled the entire length over 2 days over the Late May Bank Holiday 2010. Map proved essential when we needed guidance at occasional times.
