Janet B misses the point, 2007-07-24 Janet B misses the whole premise. Feelings are of course a response to the world around us, but between the sensory perception of an event in the world and the feeling that results comes a thought - often unnoticed. That thought is based on our beliefs and values and the way we view the world. All CBT asks us to do is to review those beliefs and values objectively and judge whether they are valid.
This book is simplistic and doesn't explain the core concepts of CBT as well as it might, but that doesn't detract from their validity.

A lightbulb moment..., 2009-10-26 I'm only a few pages in and this book has just switched on a 'lightbulb' in me. It's describing ME! I thought I was the only person who behaved like this but it seems I'm not. I've been binge eating since my late teens which is nearly 30 years now. I'm obese but not morbidly so. I'm desperate to break this cycle of secretive eating and I'm really hoping this book will get me to where I want to be. I know there is probably a lot of self-will needed when I get to the 'programme' part of the book but, for now, I know I'm not alone, that I'm not barmy and that my lack of self-control when it comes to food is a recognised thing. Give it a try yourself!

fantastic book on mindfulness - sold short on it's link with depression - can help with so much more., 2009-02-07 fantastic book on mindfulness - sold short on it's link with depression - can help with so much more.
Of course this book is great for anyone suffering depression - although the emphasis is on preventing relapse as opposed to cure or even treatment during an episode. The same mechanisms operate in anxiety, discontent and all manner of frustration intolerance. I would recommend to anyone - mindfulness will give great benefits to those who aren't suffering from any malady - it's not just a retroactive treatment - it's prevention and even actualization as well. I would also recommend HOW TO LIVE IN THE HERE AND NOW by Paul Jones.

The mindful way, 2010-02-13 This book is a self-help book and so designed for a larger public. For advanced readers I suggest picking up a copy of Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy for Depression: A New Approach to Preventing Relapse, by the same authors. Both books show promosing and inspiring new ways to deal more effectively with chronic unhappiness and depression in your life and most importantly with the causes. The steps outlined in "The Mindful Way through Depression" can bring on a radical paradigm shift in the way you view your anxiety and depression. The authors are trained in both, traditional Psychotherapy and Mindfulness, so they profoundly know what they are talking about. They invite you on a journey into the deeper workings of your mind. Through the wilderness on to more peaceful grounds. But beware, it is no easy way and for some people, depending on the severity of their experience, it may be better not to try this at home. A book can never replace a good caring person.

Complete and easy-to read book about unhumane people!, 2009-05-13 Although at times a bit technical, this is fairly and easy read book with lots of examples and summaries which helps any laic to have a full idea about psychopaths. It dismitifies many things cinema made us believe and clears out doubts about how they behave and act. Super!

Great book for trainee psychotherapist, 2010-02-07 This is a great book. I'm training to become a cognitive behavioural psychotherapist and would recommend this book. Its academic but well written and easy to understand.
Its got good use of clinical examples. It was recommended on the uni reading list and I'm glad I bought it. It will be really helpful during my training but I'm sure it'll be a book a use throughout my career.
The book arrived quickly and was in good condition.

Mind Over Mood, 2010-03-04 Recommended by my tutor. Am now using the exercises & guidelines in the book to work with clients using these CBT techniques.
It allows clarity of thought for both myself as a therapist and for my clients. It also allows clients to understand how they are progressing as they work through the personal exercises provided in the book.
It is extremely useful. So much so that I have today ordered the Clinicians Guide to Mind Over Mood, so I am looking forward to receiving & utilising this within my practice. excellent choice and invaluable as a working tool.
