An Essential Companion, 2010-07-12 This is without doubt a brilliant book. In the opening chapters, I found the "History Taking" to be exceptionally well covered, it was both concise and yet detailed to help me build on the basic structure I have acquired thus far at Nottingham. I don't doubt that I will refer to this chapter in the future.
In order to make the most of this book you will need to accustom yourself with the layout, which I found initially somewhat strange if/when I referred to it sporadically but once you've read a chapter through it all makes The chapter is laid out to initially introduce the system and a diagram of the body identifying areas of examination and what to look for, leading on to a refresh of the anatomy and the symptoms/definitions relevant to that chapter. In this regard it is quite comprehensive and should comfortably get you through MedSchool OSCE's.
There are numerous diagrams and tables ideal for quick reference. The diagrams in particular are excellent, they're very clear, and this sort of text would not be complete with pictures dotted around. Importantly there is no excess of laborious text, which is very handy. For those who prefer to read paragraphs of solid text, the tables/diagrams may actually be somewhat irritating although I was comfortable with it.
I used this book for my second year OSCE's and found that the videos (on the DVD) were helpful (though a couple of them are insanely formal and thus quite patronising to watch), I can't see myself using the videos a lot in the future, somehow I don't feel they are all that detailed, but for the level I am currently at it was certainly useful, I suspect this aspect will be improved in the future editions.
In conclusion this book cannot really fail to give you a solid foundation to start with, and so consequently serves its purpose. We've heard it said before that such skills are best learnt at the bedside, an aid like this will not go astray!

good for student nurses, 2010-06-19 If you are a student nurse, as I am, then this is an ideal book to give you an introduction to anatomy and physiology which you will likely need in the first year. This book continues the study of pathology on the body too, so overall it is a good long term investment that I anticipate referring to for years to come . It is money well spent if you are watching your pennies.
There are some amazing photos in too and the book is linked in with the website where you can have a bit more interactive learning.

A must have, 2010-07-07 This is one of the first books I got when I was fresh out of my physiotherapy degree. This book actually put all my anatomical knowledge that was very disprese and created a map of connectivity. The anatomy taught in this book was more meaningful and useful than anything Ive ever had.
The map is not the territory... that's a given, but the anatomy trains map is the only truly useful map I've found up till now to assist my work and my understanding of anatomy. It's not the only way of looking at the human body, but its at least a start.
The amount of value you can extract just out of this one book is amazing!! I own both 1st and 2nd edition and this book hasnt left my side in years!!!
Thankyou Tom

Nursing practice. Hospital and home, 2010-07-29 Both my wife and youngest daughter have a nursing background and have found this book very useful. We have recently purchased the latest version, which maintains the quality of the original. It is probably not for people without a medical background as it goes into the sort of practical nursing care detail that the average person researching a medical problem would find disturbing. For the nursing professional, and people benefitting from their expertise, it is invaluable and a classic.

The Definitive Guide, 2010-01-09 I have bought this book for my daughter - who is studying Chiropractic and also for my nephew who is studying Medicine. They both refer to their copies on a regular basis. It is generally regarded as the definitive book on anatomy and is or should be top of the reading list for anyone studying medicine or associated topics. Fully recommended.

The Physiotherapist's Pocketbook 2nd Edition, 2010-07-29 I bought the 1st edition by Kenyon and Kenyon at the start of my physio degree and found it an important source of information throughout my studies, especially when out on clinical placements. It's full of all the important stuff that are essential to physios in terms of assessment, testing, anatomy, pharmocology, etc. and covers all aspects of physiotherapy in concise, but comprehensive detail. However, this second edition further improves on its predecessor with better descriptions, additional subjects (such as trigger points) and enhanced anatomical illustrations. In fact, I bought the 2nd edition after I had completed my degree as I could see that it would still be of value to me post-graduation.
This book is an excellent learning resource for anyone considering a degree course in physiotherapy or physiotherpy students about to go out on clinical placement.

very useful!, 2010-06-07 Brilliant. This helped me pass my cardiology OSCE, and has a considerable amount of detail in it. Useful for whatever level you may be at during your time in medical school
