Lawrence and Pope pack an awful lot of information into the book, yet it's still easy to read and small enough to carry with you. As well as pictures of tracks it has details of the habits of different species, feeding signs, how to identify different kinds of dung and even a section on skulls and bones.

There's another popular book on animal tracks (the one with Ray Mears on the cover). I own both, but I find that it's the Hamlyn guide that I keep coming back to time after time. It is more relevant to wildlife in the UK and the information on gaits and trail patterns is very useful.

Buy this book - it'll turn a walk in the countryside into a fantastic detective adventure.

At first sight this book is a gem. It's good to find a cookbook with traditional recipes as well as the more adventurous ones; excellent guidance from experts to a novice like me. There are no glossy pictures (of perfection) to demoralise. Dust won't settle on my copy, only flour !!

A wonderful coffee table book, 2009-07-19
A wonderful coffee table book, which you will never tire of picking up and flicking through. It's also fun to work out how many of the cities you have been to!

The photographs are great, although some (such as Bordeaux) just don't do the beautiful places justice.

All in all this is a lovely book worth picking up, especially if you can find it cheap like I did

I purchased this book as a means of updating my limited knowledge of fishing. As a returning fisherman after an absence of around 10 years i really am in need of an update. The reviews i read on this book were all good and i must admit i was not dissapointed, it covers everything you need to know to get you started and catching. This book will be going with me on my fishing trips so hopefully it will be tight lines all the way.

Lovely quality, good illustrations and descriptions. My new garden in Germany is full of birds and gradually working out which is which with this. Aimed at proper bird watchers - no advice on feeding birds or attracting them to your garden - but I'm happy just to know who is visiting me.
