Average rating of 5/5 Excellent references for identification of bones, 2009-12-22
This book is an excellent reference for students trying to learn about identification of individual and fragmentary bones. The pictures are great and the information is very straightforward (for the most part). Sometimes the information on bone siding is a little hazy. But all in all a good starter text and a good 'to-hand' text when in the field because it is small and light. Great text! :)

Average rating of 4/5 Introduction to Structure of Earth, 2009-10-26
This is a slim but beautifully produced volume produced on 134 pages of glossy paper with many clear colour photographs and some diagrams. It moves from the microscopic structure of rocks through to landscape formation and on to continents and a currently topical section on earthquakes and fault lines. The index functions also as a useful glossary, making the book suitable for those with no previous knowledge of the subject, for whom I can highly recommend it.

Average rating of 5/5 Really usefull, 2009-05-28
This is a book that fills the gap between the pure market non technical (or sometimes absolutely unclear) book and the theoretical family of books, whose language requires the reader to have previously climbed some math walls. S Neftci puts in a very reasonable sized and extremely well presented book, the essentials of Financial Engineering. Actually, I would say, he manages to create a methodological framework that provides a quite objective approach to what really matters in Financial Engineering. And that is the main contribution of the book!

Average rating of 5/5 Look no further..., 2010-09-04
if you want an intro to Latin.
Had this book for a few weeks now & I'm still using it, still studying & still learning. Which in itself goes some way to saying how good this book is!
The author has picked out key words & phrases & uses them to build not only grammar & vocabulary but confidence as well.
Each lesson introduces a new word & the exercises slip that new word into sentences that you previously have learnt, building & recapping. Very quickly you start being able to read & write complete sentences as opposed to just random words where you have no clue what order they go in.
There is also the excellent benefit of having extra lesson notes & pronunciation downloads available from the website. Plus, unlike some books I looked at, the answers are included!
Would highly recommend this book to anyone, of any age (I'm over the 40 hill!)who wants to learn Latin.

Average rating of 4/5 Core guide to the subject for trainers, 2009-06-24
I have used this as a core part of train the trainer programmes for ten years or more. It is a practical, easy to read guide to the realm of adult learning and adult teaching - like it says on the tin. Too often academic books focus on theory and forget that teachers have to be learners first: understanding the way we learn ourselves is key, in my view, to being able to encourage others to learn.
So if you want to train (teach if you must) then learn. And if you run train the trainer courses, use it as the number one handbook.

Average rating of 5/5 A Simple Thank you to Prof Neftci, 2009-04-12
I wasn't very sure what to expect when I first read the content page on amazon.co.uk. In fact, one reviewer made things very difficult for me when he/she rated the book as "very dissapointing" and that it was written by a mad professor totally out of touch with the requirments of sophisticated market practioners for good 'how to' tools for quant finance.

Well, this is a very perfect book for people looking for basics underlying the maths in financial engineering. I have tried about 5 books. Each I suppose has its merits but did not satisfy my need. Neftci's has so far given me the satisfaction others have failed to.

If you are interested in understanding the underlying concepts of mathematical finance (avoid the misconceptions) and not just 'know the maths', then try this book. In fact, it (even) makes the maths easier afterwards.
Thank you prof Neftci.

Average rating of 5/5 Fabulous Nuclear Primer, 2009-01-29
This book by the World Nuclear University Press is a terrifically well crafted primer on the whole topic of nuclear energy and other nuclear technologies. For someone interested in facts, not ideology, this is a fine piece of literature. I am told that the WNU uses this book as a background text in its annual 6-week summer programme in Oxford which is designed to develop a cadre of responsible future leaders for the global nuclear industry.
