Essential guide to accessing therapy, 2008-02-27 This book is an excellent guide to counselling and therapy in the UK. It provides details of the main providers of therapy - the NHS, voluntary organisations, and private practitioners - with information on how to go about getting help from any of these sectors. It also explains the different types of therapy available (CBT, person-centred, etc) with a questionnaire to help you figure out which approach might be best for you. Finally, there's a chapter on what to do if you're experiencing any problems in therapy.
I bought this book after a couple of years of trying and failing to get the help I needed on the NHS. It really helped clarify what my options were, and gave me details of organisations I could contact. As a result of this I have now had the therapy I needed, am recovered and moving forwards in my life.
Sadly, counselling and therapy are often not considered that important in our healthcare system, and it can be hard to know where to turn. That makes this book an essential resource for anyone looking for help.
