It does exactly what it says on the cover, 2004-02-21 A good solid basis on which to learn about In service testing. This book gives you the basics of the subject, including legislation as well as actual testing. It would be an advantage to read the IEE guidelines subsequent to the book. All in all a handy reference book for quick check backs and decent refresher quiz on relevant questions.

A path through the swamp, 2004-01-21 This book provides a good overview of a vast subject area and is clearly aimed at the more ambitious DIYer. Although some basic knowledge of electrical principles is assumed the content is practical and sensible; there are plenty of clear diagrams, and all the major issues are covered from high-level planning through to low-level installation details. This is a book that boils the complex IEE regs down to the salient points for a straightforward domestic installation. My only criticisms would be that the prose is sometimes a little vague and there are some annoying typos.Whilst I will still need to seek further advice in some more complex areas, at least now Ill know what questions to ask, and will hopefully understand the replies! Overall this book is a solid starting point if youre considering rewiring your house, which is exactly what I wanted.

Wide coverage, but superficial, 2001-02-14 This book covers a very wide spectrum of electrical (and indeed related) subjects but only at a high level. Items range from simple low voltage lighting circuits to complex multi-phase industrial installations, and obviously, with only 101 pages, that's a lot of stuff to cover. No 'practical' elements as such, emphasis is on the theory and the diagrams. Best viewed as an introduction or an overview, but for more details, you'll need a more specialised book.
