Great introduction, 2009-05-23 This book is used in the first year of physics & astronomy at Utrecht University and I'm quite pleased with it. I haven't found any other textbook that explains things so clearly. This is in part due to the many figures and graphs that help to clarify things. Whereas with other books I often get the impression that either the author thinks explaining the subject matter at an elementary level is beneath him or the author simply assumes that you are as comfortable with the subject as he is, the authors of this book do neither. I have to say that I learned a whole lot more from this book than from sitting in classes and it's no wonder that this is the book of choice for many universities around the world.

It book fills gaps in engineering knowledge, 2007-01-31 Hi,
This book is a wonderful way to find out and repair gaps in basic engineering knowledge. If your undertaking around 'H.N'D' plus type level 'engineering' this must be on your bookshelf. The book is about as clear on its topics at this level as I have seen.
From basics to useful introductory explanations of and substantial topics as 'Electromagnetism' and 'thermodynamics' and 'Nuclear Physics'. This is a wonderful of its level book. Yes the size of the book is overkill and makes it hard to hold for very long periods. This would really help any one with engineering type studies who say missed out on 'A'-level 'Physics'. Yes it is a lot of money but its clear and obviously a 'labour of love' by the authors.

The perfect book for a general course., 2003-02-27 I've used both this book and Halliday's Extended 6th edition for my course on Physics. My conclusion, chapter after chapter, has been clear to me: this is the perfect book for a general course on Physics at university level. The language is simple to understand (Halliday too), the figures and tables are well done and useful (Halliday too), the content is thorough (Halliday: not so much !). Yes, this last is the striking thing: this book thorough and reaches a level of detail that is not a common feature for these kind of Physics books. The problems set is well balanced both in content and number (an average of 85-90 for each chapter), and as usual odd-numbered problems' solutions are provided. I've tried this book without anybody advising it to me, now I'm happy I've had it for the exam.

best statistics book ever!!, 2007-12-15 This book is absolutely absolutely brilliant. Best text book on statistics ever written!!
I wish I had known about this book years ago when I was studying statistics in college. I took 2 courses, spent a fortune but took away very little with me after the exams were over.
this book on the other hand mapped out everything so clearly in my mind. not too late to read after all this years - better late than never. I'm not afraid of statistics any more after reading this book!
Recommended to anyone who's interested in research of any kind, business analysis (which is what I'm doing currently), or analysis of any kind.
Recommended to anyone who wants to gain insights from data and persuade other people with data using an analytical approach
another word on buying this book: i got the 2nd edition of this book which costs me only 3 quid. i don't think it's worth it buying the 3rd or 4th edition, and spend 10x more money. statistical theories don't change over time!
