Excellent, 2007-11-26 I am planning a trip to Algeria in the next few months and was pleased to see that Lonely planet had at last produced a comprehensive guide to the country. For me it is concise and very readable but better than that I gave it to my Algerian boyfriend who read it from cover to cover. He confirms that the books is interesting and accurate.
The book covers not only tourist trails but the history of the country including the tragic war with France, the food and art. This is the essential book for travel to this part of the world - indeed I believe it is the only book.

Best Kenya guidebook, 2008-11-07 If you're getting a guide, I recommend this, it has much more useful information than the other two guides I have, plus useful maps and wildlife photos. Fab!

Excellent information for anyone visiting the region, 2009-09-07 This guide is very comprehensive and great value. The details, maps and descriptions are very accurate. The only thing that could improve it would be inclusion of some more photos

aka the Bible, 2006-08-06 Objectively, this is the most hardcore guidebook in the world. Covering nearly 50 countries, a dozen war zones, a thousand languages - it's Africa in 1000 pages.
This will give you the very basics: how to get to/from a country, lots of details on crossing borders overland, transport options, basic accomodation and eating solutions. Think of it as a normal Lonely Planet guide but covering only the highlights, with far fewer maps (only capitals) and much less history and background.
It's not perfect, of course, but if you're covering large swathes of the continent than it's by far your best option. Some people may be better off with a Southern/East Africa guide (from LP or others), but if your backpack can't accomodate multiple guidebooks, this is the one for you.
have fun on the trip.

Watching African Wildlife - getting the most out of it, 2010-07-12 This is a fantastic book, it's really a safari bible for the whole of Southern Africa - not only is it great for planning what you'd like to see and how to get there, it also gives lots of tips on how to get the most out of your time to tailor it to what exactly you'd like your experience to be. It is beautifully written and illustrated with a very handy identification guide should you need it.
When you come back and start planning your next African adventure it'll be even more useful.
Practical notes: The book is quite heavy (for a paperback) as it is written on very good quality paper so bear this in mind if you are going to carry it with you on your journeys, the phone numbers for the parks in it are up to date and the park information such as opening & closing times and tips on what to look for and where to explore are fantastically accurate.
If you're going to watch wildlife in Southern Africa then I heartily recommend this book - and it's a great book to dip into on your return to bring back fantastic memories - mine has a fine layer of sand trapped down the spine thanks to a small dust storm, every time a little bit drops out I remember exactly where I was and how much fun it was too.
Buy it you won't be dissapointed!

good book, 2009-11-08 Very good expecially if you are trying to find the right path in the jungle of the resorts. I cross-checked with google maps and trip advisor and all the reviews about the beaches and resorts seem to be realistic.
Recommended.
