Classic, but read the fine print!!!, 2007-03-15
I bought this book for some sing along fun with my young family. I'm not remotely religious, but there are some "classics" here that I enjoyed singing at school in the 1980's and I was surprised by how many I still knew well.

There are two complete edtions on offer, so I went for this the cheaper version, as I couldn't see any reason not to. When it arrived I realised it was cheaper because it is the WORDS ONLY edition - a fact which you can't quite make out from the picture (or at least I couldn't). Anyway, I now have the other edition too which has the WORDS AND MUSIC which helps if you want to play along as I did.

Great for getting back upto to speed, 2010-04-30
I wanted to refresh my maths knowledge both for use in my work but also to confront some demons from my high school days. Maths unfortunately was not my strongest subject and i avoided it whenever i could, strange because i now work in the technology industry and i encounter maths alot. It was difficult trying to decide which book to go with, the math gods must have been looking down on me when i decided to take a chance on this book. I dont regret it all, it starts with the basics of each topic and supports your learning progress until you are confortable with the facts of the discussion. There are exercises to help improve your understanding of the topic, and as clearly stated by the author(s) these are not trick exercises they are there to help you and not to confuse you. I would recomend the book to anyone interested in beefing their math knowledge and advancing from there. This is an essential purchase in my opinion.

Been using it for my physics course.
As some people have said it does lack a wide variety of worked examples, it's not a reference guide it's a learning aid but it is a very good one, i was recommended it by fellow students on my course and you'll regularly see one up for sale on the notice boards for students that have completed the course etc. Basically if you're capable of getting a decent GCSE in maths and have time to read and think, this book'll get you to understand some nifty maths, it's dead simple, it shows you a problem (like say the solution of root of a negative number) then it'll show you how a solution can be formed (in this case by using i where i^2=-1) and then it'll show you how to use it in several short examples (called frames i believe, e.g. (-3)^0.5 can manipulated for use in equations in this form i*(3)^0.5 as (-3)^0.5=(-1)^0.5*(3)^0.5 and i=(-1)^0.5)
I've found it very useful (and it looks a lot less messy in the book).

I can understand this!, 2001-03-02
Not being from a mathematical background, I was looking for something to get me into it quickly and quietly. Having tried various other books and failed miserably to understand them, this was like a hurricane of fresh air. I got through the whole thing in 5 days and understood the lot - a record for me when it comes to maths (we have a hate-hate relationship). I'd recommend this book any day!
