On first impression a small spiral bound book of laboratory techniques for studying platelet function would be an ideal addition to the bookcase. At least this was the rationale for buying "Platelet Protocols: Research and Clinical Laboratory Procedures". On reflection though, save your money and buy one of the more standard protocol books.The layout of the book is well thought out and easy to read. All the protocols are easy to use and conform to methodologies frequently used. And this is where the book falls down. It offers nothing new for a platelet biologist to use. Other clinical methods books cover the techniques in greater detail and with a greater depth of background. Watson & Authi in "Platelets: A Practical approach" provide a wider spectrum of techniques and more adaptability for those wishing to conduct research involving platelets.
