Average rating of 5/5 Essential reading for everyone, 2008-03-29
Please can every person in the world ensure that they read this book from cover to cover and then read it again, and again. Thank God that I am not
the only person to have got utterly fed up with the false science and outright lies of the environ-mental brigade. It was high time someone was brave enough to expose the lies falsehoods and deciets of modern day greens. Trouble is we have been dumbing down for too long and now the average person believes or at least is concerned by what the alarmists preach. Unfortunately the media are driven by this agenda and you can no longer turn on the news without hearing someone harping on about being CO2
nuetral lest we damage our planet! Somewhere in the recent past schools, politicians and colleges lost the plot and forgot how to conduct proper science and research. Mr Horner, Sir, I salute you! You are a breath of fresh air! Thankyou for exposing these Global Warming myths from the bottom of my heart.

Average rating of 5/5 Practically, permaculture heaven, 2004-12-17
This is a really inspiring book and a great starting point for those who want to care about the earth, more. This huge resource can be digested chapter by chapter or can be utilised when you want some specific recommendations (e.g. on soil type, shade loving perennials or shape of a pond). Patrick goes into practical details yet still maintains the integrity of caring for the whole (Earth)

Straight forward diagrams and clear mindmaps illustrate significant themes and ideas. Plus there are lots of uplifting case examples of permaculture designs put into practice. There is also a good list of resources and sources of what you may require in implementing your ideas.

If you want to move beyond grumbling about the worlds problems and want to become part of the solution, then this book can guide you step by step through the process. I can envisage this book being useful at many levels, national and local and on both broad and home scale projects. I strongly recommend this book.

Average rating of 5/5 These books will speak to your soul, 2009-01-02
Having read all nine of the Anasatasia books, i can say wholeheartedly that they contain the most significant information of our time, or indeed of any time since man was last able to live in peace without fear in the world.
Yes these books do talk a lot about spiritual happenings, but they do so in such a way that the practical value of that information can be not only understood but also put to use in your own life. We can't change the world overnight, but we can change ourselves and in doing so, gradually create a better, more loving, peaceful world for our children, and their children and so on.

I have to mention the two negative reviews here, it seems like these guys have completely missed the point, it is certainly not a book about sex, it talks about the way society devalues the act of sex, and many other things, it actually might be a good thing for children of a certain age to read, it would certainly be better for them to understand sex from a viewpoint of co-creation as opposed to the viewpoint taken in sex education classes, which are taught to children at a young age anyway.

Also there is mention that these books are perfectly and cleverly marketed at new agers etc, well, what sort of viewpoint does this reviewer take on the way the pharmacuetical industry markets their chemicals to cure?? (is cure the right word) the sick, a topic that is actually discussed in the books.

In conclusion, there will always be people who are not in the right time of life or frame of mind to accept the message in these books, some will write derogatory comments in order to feel better about their own take on reality, thats fine. If you are one of the many who know instinctively there is something wrong with the world, if you are aware of whats causing some of the problems, that go deper than just money, if you spend hours searching for answers only to find more confusion, and disinfo, then these books are for you my friend, they will release you from this reality prison and give you a new and positive outlook on life.

Average rating of 5/5 Opens up a whole new perspective on Art!, 2001-03-12
This book is an excellent catalogue of artistic influences with a wide and varying range of works. Here you can find some of the more obscure artists and with interviews at the back of the book you gain a real insight into the work. This book has really helped me with my Art ALevel and I would recommend it to anyone with an open mind.

Average rating of 4/5 It is exactly what is says - a complete view of the region, 2008-12-30
This is a comprehensive book that covers a wide range of Antarctic related topics in just the right amount of depth, well supported by excellent photographs and drawings/diagrams/maps, making it very accessible. It presents a lot of information about the region's geography, geology, wildlife, the history of exploration and current issues that will amply satisfy the armchair explorer and is a must for anyone contemplating, or preparing for, a visit. It's coverage goes beyond the continent itself and gives a good insight into the main outlying islands, such as South Georgia, which are often included in itineraries of visits to the area. The presence of a section on the Arctic is for comparative purposes I assume, but feels superfluous. Academics will want more depth, but this is an excellent signpost, and naturalists will need a supplementary field guide for i/d purposes as this book is not in any way portable !
This is truly a great book, well worth the money and I'd recommend not economising on The Blue Continent by the same authors which is a shortened version of the same book. You won't regret it.

Average rating of 5/5 A great book, thought provoking but accessible., 2009-01-02
The book aims to give an overview of how a large number of different contemporary photographic artists of today have approached the subject of Climate Change. The artists covered range from the obvious, and essential photographers such as Edward Burtynsky, to less prominent but still entirely relevant work of Jem Southam and An-My Le. Sugimoto's seascapes make an appearance but for me they are the least relevant works in the book, perhaps included to get a 'big' name on the list?
I found the lay out a little tricky at first. It has four chapters, Water, Ice, Plants, and Land, and not all the photographs appear to belong entirely to one group (or any). After reading the whole book however it does seem to work well as a device of collating and presenting the work, without distracting from it.
The photographs are generously printed and to a high degree, and the forewords go some way to setting the scene before the photographs begin, included a piece of writing by John Berger, that, whilst interesting, certainly isn't his best for me!
It is difficult to fault a book that has pretty much seamlessly presented the varied work of more than 20 contemporary photographers all dealing with the same, very important subject. I found it well designed, and a very interesting read, and best of all it wasn't too condescending or pretentious as some books of this nature can be. If I were forced to complain about one thing it would be that I found the information a little thin on the photographers themselves and their practice, but it is certainly a great starting point to find new artists and see fresh work. If nothing else, it is an accomplished collection of beautiful and thought provoking images!

Buy it! Great quality, its bigger than I thought, and at this price I am very happy.

Average rating of 4/5 A great primer, 2004-06-09
An ideal book for anyone wanting to understand the big issues in environmental policy and development, the green movement or indeed the developing world as a whole. The book is witty, clearly argued and gives a great overwiew of all the main issues and paradoxes (how can development be sustainable?), as well as their historical origins. Helpfully, it also clearly referenced and indexed. As someone who works in development i have found i keep returning to the book whenever i need material for a presentation or a seminar. Should be on the bookshelf of most of our policy-makers too....
