Average rating of 4/5 An accessible reference of general animal physiology, 2000-11-13
This textbook provides an interesting overview of physiological processes in the animal kingdom. As a student of both animal biology and physiology, I found it useful during the first and second years of my degree course. I would say, though, that it is more suited to animal biologists with a passing interest in physiology or for looking up key points, rather than someone studying physiology in detail.

The layout is easy-to-use and, with plenty of diagrams and colour, very clear and understandable.

Well-recommended if it suits your needs.

Average rating of 5/5 Clear, unfussy and comprehensive, 2005-07-19
I've been searching for a book to do this for ages. Photographs of real people with line drawings overlaid to show, for example, where a particular muscle lies in relation to the surface of the leg; where precisely (at a vertebral level) the lungs lie within the thorax. The regions , systems and functions of the body are clearly worked through so that it becomes possible for those of us who are not planning on being surgeons (and for all I know, those that are!) to understand what you might be palpating.

Average rating of 5/5 Very useful!, 2007-01-20
I like all these Oxford science dictionaries. Mine are v dog-eared from constant grabbing from my side when reading through heavy textbooks. They're great because the entries can be extensive without being too long-winded. Well cross-referenced too. Once you look up one thing you'll end up looking up far more!

Average rating of 5/5 Fantastic Book., 2005-11-08
What a fantastic book! Every chapter is well written ~ easy to follow pictures ~ review/knowledge questions at the end of each chapter to test understanding and the CDRom is a foolproof learning tool, again monitoring your weaknesses/strengths. Wish I'd bought it 6 months ago!

Average rating of 5/5 Anatomy & Physiology, 2008-05-31
This was on the book list for my nurse training course at university, so I didn't have a choice but to buy it. As a first year student nurse, I have to admit, I found it a bit daunting. It's probably more aimed at medical students than nursing students. However, I persevered with it and, now I've been qualified for 7 years, I find it much easier to understand and really do wonder why I didn't get it in the first place. As said by one of the other reviewers, it is "the bible", if there's anything connected with anatomy and physiology that isn't mentioned in this book, believe me, it's not worth mentioning at all. For medical students, it's second to none. For nursing students, you may be put off by it at first, but persevere with it as I did and won't regret it, you'll be using it for your whole nursing career.

Average rating of 5/5 A surgical bible worth it's weight in gold, 2004-11-22
Your stressed. The MRCS is taking over your life. You would sell a kidney to pass. Instead by this gem of a book that covers the trickiest part of the viva - the physiology section. Physiology isn't that difficult - it's just the huge scope of the content which is difficult to fit into your revision schedule. This book is a god send. It is small and concise with the information in question and sub-question format. The explanations are given in a complete and simple format which I found easy to learn from. I'm sure this review isn't going to be much use to you as you will have already been recommended it by your peers. Well worth the money.
