Average rating of 4/5 The perfect accompaniment to the edexcel A-level, 2004-08-26
This book is the perfect accompaniment to the edexcel A-level syllabus as it has been written the leading examiners of the edexcel board. Although some of the information contained within this book is generic to all biology A-level students I would not recommend this book to anyone who is not going to study edexcel as some of the information is very 'board specific'. This book comes with past exam questions and answers to match which I have found other such books to be lacking in. However it would be always useful for the book to have more questions as it seems quite limited.

Author: David Attenborough
By BBC Books

There are over four and a half thousand different kinds of mammals alive today. How many can you name? Many will not be entirely clear about what it is that makes a mammal rather than a reptile or bird, apart from egg laying. But then what about egg-laying mammals such as the platypus and echidna? The Life of Mammals describes and illustrates the remarkable diversity of mammals from the giant blue whale to the miniscule pigmy shrew. The cachet of David Attenborough's name and distinctive voice comes through clearly from the text and there's a stunning selection of photographs, by the best wildlife photographers in the world. The Life of Mammals is worth getting even if you just like wildlife pictures, for there are many here that you will not have seen before--the Brazilian tapir, the hairy rhino of Sumatra, the Pyrenean desman and more.

Attenborough certainly has the knack of making good stories for the general reader out of what, in other hands, can be rather dry science. He manages to weave in a great deal about the evolutionary story behind the success of the mammals over the last 65 million years since the dinosaurs bit the dust. Also, because of all the caref...
Average rating of 5/5 Very interesting, a great read, 2008-07-01
I bought this book just before I went on holiday and could hardly put it down! It's well written and doesn't use phrases and terms that an average person wouldn't understand. It is well illustrated which comes in very handy as if you're anything like me you won't have a clue what many of these animals look like. There is a lot of information squeezed in and some animals are only briefly touched on while others have a lot more pages dedicated to them, but with the age of the internet a quick Wiki search will satisfy any desire you may have to know more but I personally didn't feel the need. A definite recommendation for anyone with an interest in animals.

Average rating of 5/5 A must for all dog-owners., 2001-10-14
Having tried a few different techniques to help our timid-but-dominant collie x I was beginning to despair of finding a method where I could interact with the dog whilst improving our relationship. Linda Tellington-Jones provides such a method. It is a well written & illustrated book & I have seen results almost instantly - Meg & I have a much closer & more trusting relationship after only a few days. I cannot recommend the book enough. Buy it.

Average rating of 5/5 Photography at it's Best, 2008-01-04
This book is simply superb. Each picture is a joy to behold, as Norbert Rosing manages to really capture the life of the polar bear. This is a unique collection, with many unseen photographs, that maps a year in the life of this great animal. It is a high quality production with stunning photography and an informative commentary of events.

Average rating of 5/5 Excellent, 2008-10-25
I am very happy I read this book. I learnt alot about the different organs of the body and their functions; through that explanation why I should eat healthy food and exercise. The diagrams and English I could understand well. There was no mention about the mouth - it's importance; why gums, teeth and mouth should be kept clean and healthy.

Average rating of 5/5 fantastic a must !!, 2006-04-11
This book is well presented and a must for any new falconer that is interested in harris hawks in particular.

It clearly cover all the topics you need and more!!

This is not a book that will be of no use when your bird is trained as it has lots of tecniques and hints that will insure this book is by no means restricted to the begginer.

the subjects on manning and equiping are excellent as it encourages the begginer to look at every problem from the birds point of view.

this is a must if you are considering taking up falconry as the importance of representing the sport to a high standard are stressed. This book is (rightly so) based on the Harris hawk or redtail. as these are more sutible birds for begginers.

so if you are considering the redtail or harris hawk buy this book and you will not be dissapointed!!

Average rating of 4/5 Mammalian Physiology and Behaviour , 2007-10-18
It is a good book to help an A-level student through the course as it has only the required information in. Better than other revision books e.t.c as they usually have non-specific items in and even some missing info.

I would also recommend this book for reading for an optometry student at university level. It provides a good understanding of the basic workings of the human body for early understanding of the university course. (This combined with "Essential A2 Biology for OCR (Essential A2) by Glenn and Susan Toole")

A good book
