best so far, 2007-09-21 i am an equine shiatsu practitioner & i am keen to explore other hands-on techniques. i have read a few horse massge books but this is the only one so far that has given quite clear descriptions of massage techniques, & would enable even someone new to this kind of therapy to feel confident to have a go! it's the sort of book you can take into the stable with you & try out different techniques on your horse. it's also written in plain english! although my only concern is with the stretching section. some of the stretches take the animals limbs beyond their normal range of motion & you can clearly see the horses discomfort in the pictures (compared to their reaction during other techniques). i would be slightly concerned at the lay-person trying out some of these stretches on their own horses & wondering why they showed resentment!

Great Book!, 2008-02-26 I had some knowledge of homeopathy before I bought this book, but I have a whole lot more now! This book is fantastic - it is clear, detailed and very helpful. Everything is laid out really well and it tells you in easy language how to treat horses consitutionally and symptomatically. It is sensible and down to earth and explains the differences between conventional veterinary medicine and homeopathy so that owners can make informed choices.
It's brilliant - buy it!

Plenty of clear pictures and radiographs, 2002-05-20 This book is good for students as it contains many clear, colour pictures of dissections as well as radiographs and sections focusing on the osteology of the dog and cat. However I feel the book would have been better had it included a text description of what important features are shown in the pictures, and line diagrams may also have been useful. Altogether a valuable book for remembering what you should be seeing inside the dog and cat.

A handy book for beginners to have around, 2000-10-17 This is a fairly basic book but does give some excellent advice, particularly on lambing presentations. Having farmed sheep now for 5 years, I feel this book tends to cover the 'nice' side to sheep farming and often doesn't get down to the nitty-gritty. However, having said that, when I first started to farm sheep I hardly put the book down as there was always something I wanted to know. It really is an 'introduction' and within 2 years I felt I'd 'outgrown' it. One of the best features of the book is that it is presented in wipe-clean hard back, which is great because the times you'll really need it are the times when you're covered in mud and blood ! For the beginner, it's a 'must-have' for lambing time. Happy farming !

A helpful dissection guide and reference to dog anatomy, 2001-11-26 "Guide to the dissection of the dog" takes you step by step through the dissection of the dog by each system found in each region. This allows the anatomy observed to be put into context and thus better understood and better learnt. The instructions are clear and consise and help you to see all of the important structures. They give you advice on how to carry out each stage of the dissection, whilst describing the structures seen at the same time. Following each section of instructures are clearly labelled diagrams, which are, to me, the most useful aspect of the book. They show a good level of detail and are excellent for indentifing structures in the specimen with which you are working. The majority of structures are labelled directly on the diagrams with leader lines, rather than with a numbered key, which I think makes the diagrams much easier to use then some others (such as those found in the otherwise excellent "Textbook of Veterinary Anatomy" by Dyce, Sack and Wensing). There are also helpful descriptions of attachment, action and innervation of each muscle under clear headings. I have also found that the Guide is an excellent reference book for learning anatomy from and even for when writing anatomy essays. The emphasis of the book is on description of the structures found, rather than explaination of their functions, and it is therefore no replacement for a full textbook of anatomy, such as "Miller's Anatomy of the Dog". As a reference to the name, position and shape of structures, however, "Guide to the Dissection of the Dog" is very useful and as a guide to dog dissection, is essential.
