weighty but rewarding, 2008-12-12 This is a hefty tome that grips in a way that few biographies do. A book of 3 acts, the first covers Oppenheimers early years and rise through academia as well as events on a personal level that shape his later life. The second act deals with Manhattan, Trinity and Hiroshima but it is arguably the 3rd act concentrating on Oppenheimers fall from political grace that is the most satisfying.
The true genius of this book is that it succeeds in placing the man in the broader political picture of the time and revealing a character that was as much ahead of his own time as he was misunderstood and perhaps naive.

5 stars for research and information, 1 star (not even) for layout and typos..., 2006-11-10 This is vol 1, SS Botherhood of the Bell is Vol.2. Get both together. If you have read Nick Cook 'Hunt for Zero Point', or know anything about Tesla, Steiner and Schauberger and their teachings on Energy, this book (both of them) will make sense. There is a certain amount of waffle and speculation, but enough of his information is truly breathtaking and mindblowing in its possibilities, and backed up by sufficient evidence to become plausible altogether, for both books to be more than worth the price.
I will give these books many readings to understand properly what he is saying, potentially. The writing style is intelligent and accessible. You just have to ignore the staggering number of typos. They are almost like a test of your ability to focus. If you can ignore them, the result is well worth the effort.
His take on Roswell is especially mindblowing. I'm still in the process of digesting the implications of the possibilities.
This isn't a political book, but it approaches the unique frame of reference of occult/pagan/sacred science within the SS/Third Reich and the real results of this, with a refreshingly open mind. Without condoning, he explains without emotional interjection, as a true intersted researcher. The result will take you on a most fascinating, and at times quite 'scary' journey into the realms of a possible alternative reality with regard to the Third Reich, its science, and the history of the post-WW2 world.
Be prepared to learn, and to be 'scared' into an unexpected kind of Enlightenment. Enjoy the journey!

A must have book for all A-level Physics students!, 2001-09-16 Although quite a thin book, the information with which it contains is great! There is no worthless material and has questions to aid the revision process. Maybe using it throughout the school year would be of benefit, to help refresh yourself after lessons.Overall a well written book, it is certainly helping me understand the A2 course. As I am also studying Biology and Chemistry, the other Revision guides in the series are both excellent! Ben Weaver.

Useful property tables, 1999-07-17 his is not a 'book' in the traditional sense. It is more of an engineering reference table, giving specific properties of substances in different states.A very useful purchase for anyone connected with engineering calculations (including students) in thermodynamics and aerodynamics.

An excellent introduction to cosmology, 2005-08-07 Laymen's guides to physics usually resort to metaphors that are seriously misleading. The alternative is a highly mathematical approach that is inaccessible to most readers. Coles manages to simplify without misleading. Actually, some basic knowledge of physics is assumed, at least if you want a full understanding of what is being said, but it is never beyond high school level and most of the book does not require even that.Covering relativity, quantum theory, particle physics and much else, this is a perfect introduction to a vast and profound topic. My only complaint: cosmology is a fast-changing subject. A new edition is needed very soon.

LEARNING PHYSICS CAN BE FUN, 1999-03-09 I have a degree in Physics from 37 years ago and picked this book up after browsing for a few minutes. The book is GREAT, OUTSTANDING, FUN TO READ, WELL ORGANIZED and EXPLAINS a lot about the every day physics we live in. This book is a must for students interested in learning more about physics. I am going to buy a couple of other titles by this author for my library.

Good revision Book, 2003-10-06 It is a very good book, it contains everything that you need for the syllabus. It is a good study guide, but not as a text book, it doesn't go in very detail, you might not understand what is says by just reading this book, it just gives you the main points.

The best book about cooking I've ever read, 2008-05-26 This book is a rare gem - instead of just providing a list of recipes like most books about cooking do, it gives you detailed descriptions of how various methods of food preparation work.
The book presents both scientific theory behind the techniques and practical instructions on how to use it in everyday cooking.
Definitely a must have for everybody seriously interested in good food.

An essential for those studying Optics, 2000-03-11 This book is an absolute must for all students studying Optics at University level. It is certainly a necessity for those studying Physics at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh. The basics are covered simply, but completely, and more advanced topics are covered more qualitatively than quantitatively

Very Useful, 2008-08-05 This was recommended to me by a physicist in the year above me at Oxford - have successfully used it for a year in Physics, and from next year's syllabus it should be fine for the second year too. It was set at the right level and does everything rigorously (for a non-mathematician), leaving no confusing contradictions when you learn more advanced topics. The explanations and questions are all well thought out for developing an understanding of the topics.
