The Schofield & Sims Mental Arithmetic books are widely used in private schools and they have got to be by far the beat value workbooks available to parents whose children are preparing to sit their 11+. Each page has maths questions on everything from algebra to geometry. The sums are presented in simple equation form as well as the more wordy questions of the type found in SAT's. If by the beginning of Year 6 a child is confident with the level of sums in Book 5 he/she should be capable of performing well in the 11+ which usually take place in the first term of the academic year. It would be a good idea to buy the answer book to accompany Book 5 as it saves time in marking the tests. I found this workbook much more useful than the Bond test papers which are more expensive and require your child to sit a timed practice test whereas the Schofield and Sims books allow for more flexible study. Furthermore as each page covers all arithmetic principles , areas of weakness are easily highlighted. Msot of the parents at my children's state school rely on this series and without exception rate it very highly.

Absolute must have for Student nurses, 2010-04-21
My, not so good, maths skills were really worrying me when I started as a student nurse, I had another Drug Calculation book and just could not get to grips with it. However this book had been amazing, it starts of with the real basics and gradually works up to more complex stuff with lots of tests at regular intervals. it has really made a difference and helped me to be a lot more confident with drug calculations and maths in general. A must have for anyone who is worried about drug calculations!

The best maths workbooks out there, 2010-05-22
Okay we have tried loads of maths workbooks and we always come back to Bonds' for both maths and english as I feel they are the best. I prefer the quality of paper its printed on, it has a free website with extra worksheets if there is something your child needs extra help on and i love the way everything is set out in the book. Everything feels well spaced out on the page which isn't too scary for the child when they first look at it. I would recommend Bonds workbooks over any other.

Intelligent, erudite, very well written, very well explained!, 2010-06-06
I bought this book as a gift for a cousin who likes me, loves mathematics. I thought I'd cheekily be able to read it beforehand, and boy, does it delight! It certainly gripped me: the puzzles are absorbing and presented in such an approachable manner. It even got me, formally trained in the subject, interested in looking up those other areas I've not looked at in years. And the recipient of the gift felt likewise too.

This is certainly popular science writing at its finest, a joy for the reader, and an inspiration for us all scientists/mathematicians/engineers who sometimes work with the public.

Absolutely fantastic!, 2009-09-06
Even though I haven't finished reading this book yet I love it! The explanation of mathematical ideas is clear and interesting. This book helped me to further understand the maths topics I've learned in college!
