George Monbiot
By Penguin Books Ltd
A blueprint for action, 2008-08-12 It is a complaint frequently levelled at radicals that they produce no alternatives to the problems they identify. It says a lot about the quality of this book that one of the most commonly heard criticisms is that its research is too detailed and its solutions too thorough. It is clear that alternate political and social structures would make solving climate change easier. Monbiot knows this well but aims his argument at those who have no interest in altering systems of gross injustice at all. The tweaking he proposes, while requiring real political pressure on our part and something of a challenge to entrenched power, will compromise the quality of our lives barely at all. By making an argument of such comprehensivess, subtelty and foresight, he has exposed those who whinge about a sandal-wearing return to the stone age for what they are - arrogant narcissists who would rather shop in Paris and New York than prevent the mass flooding of Bangladesh. Absolutely essential. Read it. Then act.

Thought provoking, 2005-08-10 This book gets you thinking about typography rather than teaching you the art - although there are a few practical tips you will pick up along the way. Written in a witty and entertaining style it is a worthwhile introductory read for those just getting into typography.

If you are planning a building / extension project, then read this first., 2007-12-28 I read this book because we're planning an extension, and I found it to be extremely helpful.
Kevin rationalises the emotive process of designing your own dream. He provides loads of tips and many helpful checklists.
More than anything he provides a compelling case for finding good architects for your project and working closely with them - he makes a convincing case to illustrate that their work will effectively cost you nothing.

One of the best, 2007-10-13 This is one of the best design books I have ever found. It's everything from the history of how mice and gui's were first invented to just interesting information and interviews from the people who started it all. Still reading it, buts its very interesting and well worth it.

Superb little book, 2007-12-21 I wouldn't be without this book - it's so clear to use.
A generous helping of diagrams make it far more user-friendly than the On-Site Guide or BS7671. Very helpful if you do electrical work on a professional basis. It's a shame that the wiring regs have to read like a phone directory compared to books like this.

Absolutely cracking - don't need to be a diver to enjoy this , 2008-08-24 I laughed out loud reading this story, had a lump in the throat at the descriptions of the Falklands and was absolutely fascinated by the life of a commercial diver described in this book.
The story covers years in the Navy including a very hairy account of defusing bombs in Bomb Alley that compounded the dangers of diving with that of war
What I really liked was he includes other peoples recollections of incidents including Piper Alpha and does not try to 'big' them up - just what he recalls.
The camerdarie of the Navy and diving in general comes across so well that you could almost imagine being there - and you do need toread his account of the creation as if God was a diver ...
Great book - throughly recommend it
