Average rating of 5/5 God send to those who struggle with chemistry, 2006-02-05
This book was recommended to me by a university lecturer (I was dubious at first as the authors also work at my uni). It's a great book for A'Level or Foundation degree level students as the topics covered are fairly basic but it explains everything very clearly. Made my first year much easier as I was always dipping into this book. The questions do help with revision too.

Average rating of 5/5 Fascinating, 2007-07-11
I haven't done any chemistry for over 20 years. I bought this on a whim and it's got me completely hooked. The book starts with basic introductions on the structure of DNA and proteins and then delves into ever more detail. It's easy to follow, consistently interesting and so well laid out that you find your knowledge increasing steadily as you read.

In order to get the best from the book, you'd probably need to have A level chemistry or similar but I'm managing to understand it despite my memory of organic chemistry being pretty dim.

Average rating of 5/5 A Very Good Introduction, 2006-11-19
It's great to read a science book by someone who can see beyond his own little world. The elements? Let's start with the ancients, Greeks and the like, and work from there. Fantastic! I've ordered the sequel (Molecules) already.

Average rating of 5/5 Fantastic book - Grade A for sure!!, 2007-05-02
This book is excellent, especially if you are studying A level chemistry and thinking of doing a degree in Chemistry. It's superb, it has helped me out a lot and I have achieved a grade A for A level chemistry - with the help of this book. It's much better than LETTS, COLLINS books! I have learnt a great lot with the help of E.N Ramsden books. -The structure of the book is so comprehensible. At the end of the each chapter there are plenty of question's to practise with answers! If anybody is studying A level Chemistry, go for this book -you'll pass with a Grade A!.

Average rating of 5/5 The medicine for AS chemistry blues!, 2007-06-16
Im hoping to go to medical school, so obviously I needed those A's. I don't think I could have found a better answer to my prayers.
It has all that you need and if used properly will guarantee that you achieve the grade you want!
I loved this book, It got me an A in the January exam and am hoping for the same from this summer's AS exams.
Many in my class copied after they saw how useful it was in and out of lesson, and they got A's also!
Unfortunatley I have a problem with misreading questions so I may have dropped a few marks, but due to this book, none were because I didnt know my stuff.

Be careful! Do not use just one source.. I reccomend past papers ALOT! They work alongside this book perfectly... and also beware that there is some content in this book which is no longer on the syllabus, so just check your specification on the AQA website.

But Otherwise, if you really want an A and a good ledge on chemistry, I cannot reccomend this book more, espescially if you have a poor teacher!

last tip: Go through reading all words and highlight key words, phrases, defenitions, equations and conditions and I assure you that it will make it more concise when you come to read through again!

Average rating of 5/5 An essential resource for making every word count, 2007-09-25
I am midway through an Open University degree course and have found 'Line by Line' to be an absolutely indespensible resource. Whenever an academic essay is required I find remaining within strict word limits to be one of the most taxing requirements. Using the simple, but effective, techniques in the book I am able to literally cut an essay word length in half without losing valuable content. Trust me, if you are about to embark - or are already engaged in - any type of scholarship, this is the book for you!

Average rating of 5/5 I got a first in immunology because of this book, 2007-04-17
This is by far the best immunology textbook. In my experience other immunology authors randomly start talking about something that they don't cover until later on/previously in the book so you literally have to read the whole book just to understand one bit. Goldsby isn't like that at all. You can just read one chapter to understand one aspect making this book really efficient, great when you're a week away from the exam. I'm a biochemistry student and as I've said above I got a first in my second year immunology module because of this book. Buy other books at your peril!

Average rating of 5/5 Just what the Doctor ordered., 2007-02-08
I really enjoyed reading this book. It struck an excellent balance between scientific insight and salacious gossip. What a combination!

I was reading this in my hospital bed needing something demanding enough to save me from terminal boredom, but that I could pick up in short bursts. Just what the Doctor ordered.

Average rating of 5/5 A textbook you will actually read!, 2004-07-11
This book turned out to be the most used textbook of my undergraduate career. I found it to be informative without being too dry! The diagrams are used to great effect and the chapter on protein folding is superb. This is a great buy for biochemists or undergraduates in chemistry who choose to study some biochem modules etc.
