Average rating of 3/5 Good for last minute revision, 2005-01-16
If you are looking for a good last minute revision book, that reinforces key ideas, then this book is for you. I bought it and realised that a few chunks of my CCEA syllabus were left out, as with OCR and Edexcel, so beware. It deals with core principles in a clear and coherent way, but does not go into any great detail. I wouldn't recommend relying solely on this book, as it wont get you the high grade you want. Well worth the money though, buy it, but dont expect it to save you.

Average rating of 4/5 Fine book but errors..., 2006-04-11
Some errors remain. For example, in Chapter 2, Equations 2.9 and 2.10 set k, the rate constant for a reaction, equal to t, the time until ignition. The rate constant will increase with a temperature rise, whereas the time to ignition must decrease. Perhaps this was a transposed equation that could be easily corrected in a future printing. While this volume can be improved, it does offer a starting point for the beginning student of pyrotechnics and chemistry.

Average rating of 5/5 A paradoxically straightforward account of a realm thats anything but, 2006-04-27
This is one of the most easily understandable guides to quantum physics that I have read. Filled with creative analogies and anecdotes, this books allows the general reader to get their head around the facts at the edge of our knowledge. The author's livetime of physical research and tales of fellow big names in physics adds a human touch to a subject which can easily become bogged down in math and concept. Whilst we may not all be Einstein or Dirac we can peak into their world from our armchairs with this text.

Average rating of 5/5 Bare bones crash course in ligand field theory!, 2003-11-15
Picture this. You are a second year undergraduate student and you havn't a clue about the effect of ligands on d - electron orbital splitting. Never fear! This bare bones introduction will
allow you to pass, just. There is a dearth of real life examples but otherwise noone can complain about this book. Maybe someday you will be a productive chemist instead of a parasitic student and it may well be because you were inspired by the symmetric elegance of ligand field theory! HA HA

Average rating of 4/5 A good text!, 2003-07-22
This is a good text to start any analytical chemistry course. A text which is comprehensive and also easily understood with clear illustrations and good explanation. Suitable for advanced undergraduate students in any analytical chemistry course. A good reference too for higher levels such as MSc or as a research reference.
