Unforgettable, 2006-09-15 No wildlife lover should be without a copy of this extraordinary (but true!) story. It is split into three parts!
Born Free: Follows the life of Elsa as an orphaned lion cub in Kenya until she grows up and is taught on how to be a wild lion.
Living Free: Follows the life Elsa and her three young cubs.
Forever Free: Elsa tragically dies of an illness and her cubs are taken to the Serengeti in Tanzania to be released into the wild.
All took my breath away as I read about, not just the lives of the lions, but of the people around them.

Survival tool, 2006-08-25 Couldn't have survived the stats in either my degree or my MSc without this book, it gets down to what biologists care about in stats, what test to use, how to use it and what it shows, and avoids all the confusing 'mathsy' stuff in the middle (leaving you to read it in other books if necessary). If you want a stats book that is designed for biologists who have to cope with stats rather than statisticians trying to make something relevant to biology this is probably the book for you.

A must for biology undergraduates., 2005-12-03 A really good textbook for all undergraduate biology and biochemistry students. One of the only books I consistently used throughout my course. I am now a teacher, and often use it to help bridge the gap for my students between A levels and university. It is very clear and the diagrams are excellent. If I were a student considering buying this book, I am not sure that I would spend the extra money on buying the latest edition. It costs enough to go to university as it is! If you do buy it used though, make sure it's in good condition as it will be well used.

Understand the new science of personality, 2008-07-07 I've been trying to find a book on personality that does justice to the emerging consenus around the Big 5 factors (extraversion, neuroticism, conscientiousness, agreeableness and openness to experience)... and here it is. Nettle writes clearly and lucidly for the general reader while persuasively arguing for his own interpretations of contentious issues.
Most impressively, for each of the 5 factors he;
(i) describes them in greater detail than other authors bother to do
(ii) links extreme scores to heightened risk of developing particular disorders
(iii) relates each factor to a particular psychological mechanism
(iv) links these to structures in the brain
(v) explains why variation continues to exist for each factor
There's also a clear explanation of the evidence on the causes of personality differences and the shortest Big 5 personality test ever.
One of those books that makes you feel smart for understanding it.

The perfect accompaniment to the edexcel A-level, 2004-08-26 This book is the perfect accompaniment to the edexcel A-level syllabus as it has been written the leading examiners of the edexcel board. Although some of the information contained within this book is generic to all biology A-level students I would not recommend this book to anyone who is not going to study edexcel as some of the information is very 'board specific'. This book comes with past exam questions and answers to match which I have found other such books to be lacking in. However it would be always useful for the book to have more questions as it seems quite limited.

Really good books, Highly recommended, 2008-08-25 Lives up to the high standard set by the previous editions & moves on from them. Now in two volumes which means that it is lighter & easier to use. The free extra book is also a very useful resource. I would highly recommend this to any Paramedic students out there.

A Quantum Achievement, 2008-07-19 Quantum Success has to be THE most insightful treatise on the subject of personal wealth creation that I have ever read. Why? Because the author, Sandra Anne Taylor, genuinely narrates a philosophy that is wholey grounded in metaphysics and plain common sense. If you have ever studied the Cosmic Ordering approach to getting what you want and found that it simply does not work then I emplore you to buy this book for within its pages are contained one essential revelation after another. It took me over six months to read it for time and again I would have to pause over a sentance, or even a simple statement, and allow it to become absorbed into my sub-conscious before moving on. It is a joyous and thoroughly illuminating read. It changed my life - which after reading several hundred publications on the same subject, I had given up hope of ever finding a book that would do so. Wonderful!
