Average rating of 5/5 A magical mathematical cabinet, 2009-12-09
This book is a worthy successor to Professor Stewart's previous best seller. Full of entertainments for anybody with a fascination for mathematics, that under appreciated foundation to our science and technology, and for some of us one of the deepest of interests and a continuing delight.

The book is stimulating, entertaining, amusing and informative. If you have the slightest interest, buy it and read it.

Author: Charles Darwin
By Wordsworth Editions Ltd

It's hard to talk about The Origin of Species without making statements that seem overwrought and fulsome. But it's true: this is indeed one of the most important and influential books ever written, and it is one of the very few groundbreaking works of science that is truly readable.

To a certain extent it suffers from the Hamlet problem--it's full of clichés! Or what are now clichés, but which Darwin was the first to pen. Natural selection, variation, the struggle for existence, survival of the fittest: it's all in here.

Darwin's friend and "bulldog" T. H. Huxley said upon reading the Origin, "How extremely stupid of me not to have thought of that." Alfred Russel Wallace had thought of the same theory of evolution Darwin did, but it was Darwin who gathered the mass of supporting evidence--on domestic animals and plants, on variability, on sexual selection, on dispersal--that swept most scientists before it. It's hardly necessary to mention that the book is still controversial: Darwin's remark in his conclusion that "Light will be thrown on the origin of man and his history" is surely the pinnacle of British understatement. --Mary Ellen Curtin, Amazon.com
Average rating of 5/5 A book that changed the world.., 2010-03-05
This book is truly fantastic. I've studied and been researching into Darwin and the Theory of evolution for a long time now, and having read this book once before, I decided it was a must have on my bookshelf. I've just finished reading it, and Darwin's intelligence shines through by his literary genius, that whilst sometimes hard to follow due to the time period he's writing it in, is very concise and clear and shows a complete understanding of his theory and total confidence in his research and findings.

A must have for any person interested in this field, but is not so much for the average layperson.

Average rating of 5/5 Excellent apart from the language used., 2010-01-04
This book is a good as previous reviews suggest. I will be using it for this year and certainly into first year of uni. It is fun to use and easy to follow. The only negative point I have seen is that the language used is American English so words such as oesophagus are spelt esophagus but spell checker should solve that for written work.

I am doing my level 3 apprenticeship and this guide book is invaluable.
It takes you through all the inspection and testing procedures and most important it tells you in plain english. The calculations are shown and explained, and there are interesting questions for you to answer at the back of the book.
I dont think you will find anything to beat this guide for information & price

Average rating of 5/5 Simply the best maths book, 2010-03-01
My uncle recommended this book to me after flicking through it in the shop. At the time I wasn't really bothered because I hated maths. I needed to pass my key skills level 2 maths in order to get to uni. I studied and did the activities everyday in this book and I noticed the results straight away. I went from hating maths to absolutely enjoying maths. This book is the only book you need as it really starts off from the basics to the more competent level 2. I haved passed my key skills level 2 and I am at uni now so I recommend this book.
