Excellent Reference for Small Animal Medicine, 1999-07-22 Every small animal hospital in North America should have this book on their bookshelf. Medical topics are presented in a complete yet concise format - this is the perfect quick reference tool for today's busy veterinarian!
Not an everyday reference book, 2009-03-03 I was searching for a reference book to keep at hand and refer to during a busy surgery or even doing a bit of research during quieter times.
Unfortunately this is not the book for me. I find the size and weight of the book prohibits me from carrying it with me. Also at nearly 1600 pages with small print I don't find it particularly accessible.
The paper is thin and quickly creases. I guess it's my fault for not checking these things before purchase - it would have been useful to know size and weight (I was expecting A5 and this is A4)
I'm sure it's a great book for the right situation but I already have thick textbooks and wanted a quick and easy pointer...
Great book for vets, 2009-08-15 I am a multiple cat owner who bought this book as an informative guide to feline deseases in order to improve my own knowledge and understanding of few of my pets conditions.
Firstly, this book is good in giving what it states, 5 minutes overview of a deasease, how to diagnose it, suggested meds, diet, risks and follow ups. It really is great for any vet's surgery, as a quick reminder, or a step by step action checklist.
But if you are like me, a pet owner and not a vet, you need to be aware of 2 things:
1. The book is indexed by a desease title or a condition name, therefore you will need to already know what you pet has in order to find out more about it.
2. The lingo in the book is very high tech medical lingo, and unless you have some medical background, you will find it hard to understand many terms. Therefore, buy this book only if you are unterested in the serious detail about your pet's condition, and want to know a bit more then what your vet will usually tell you, or what is normally written about it on a standard vebsite.
A must have for veterinary students, 1999-07-17 No matter how many books you already own, this one is essential. Especially for those students headed into senior clinics, this book makes diagnosis and SOAP writing about a million times easier. A great reference that gives answers in just a few minutes and helps avoid those embarrassing long silences when asked to comment on a case by your instructor.
If you are a vet or a vet student in 4th/5th year, BUY THIS BOOK, 2010-05-20 This book is amazing. Sometimes you just want a quick concise answer, in a standard format, without pages of pathophysiological explanation. You want to know what drugs to use and in what dose. You want to know the bloods & biochemistries. You don't want waffle, and you don't want to spend an hour reading pages and pages of Ettinger to get the one sentence you need. This book gives you just that. The equine one is awesome too. I bought them both.
