well presented material with excellent real time application, 2002-01-19 an excellent text that has been written very well depicting the various types of problems that can be solved mathematically in particular the format and presentation of differential equations is well presented and rigorously shown along with other material worth the investment in purchasing this text for students majoring in engineering amd in particular mathematics
A must for undergrad and grad students in Eng and Physics, 2005-02-01 Having gone through 7 years of university (as an undergrad, MSc then now as grad student), I found this text book is one of the best in the market - in terms of introducing new concept in a heuristic fashion, and as a good reference book to refresh on "those problems you can solve with your eyes closed as an undergrad, but can't recall completely as a grad". Although some proofs are not as rigorous as one hoped, but as a refresher book for mathematical techniques for applications in physical eng/physics problems it is a goldmine! Useful for tutoring as well. Proud to say my own copy is dog-eared and well worn from use!
Oh how this book colours my dreams!, 2006-11-05 A novice to engineering, I decided I'd start from the top and work my way backwards. A difficult task I know, but I like a challenge. And how fantastic the experience was. The feelings going through me when I read about the Fourier analysis and the numerical methods were almost erotic in their complexity! So many computer problems, and the team projects are just out of this world. I don't know how I managed to live with myself before I found this book - the veritable bible of the modern world. Ignore it at your peril! Aaah....
An excellent all round text for reference or detailed study., 2000-04-08 This excellent text provides both reference material and in depth tuition, covering a wide range of areas of mathematics. Each chapter guides the reader through the subject matter, with worked examples and exercises (answers to odd numbered questions are in the back.) Many examples and problems demonstrate the practical applications for the mathematics studied, in the areas of engineering, electronics and physics. This comprehensive text is ideally suited for those seeking an all round post-A-level / undergraduate /postgraduate text. An absolute must for all serious scientists!
an absolutely superb book!, 2007-01-22
This is an absolutely great book. At over 1000 pages it's a real opus - covering everything from ordinary differential equations, linear algebra, vector calculus, fourier analysis, complex analysis and probability. It's exceptionally well written - with plenty of clear examples, diagrams and exercises - constantly cross referencing back to the particular idea or formula that an example is employing. It presupposes only elementary calculus - and so makes an excellent university textbook to accompany study, or as a self-study book to further your maths knowledge.
I wish all maths books were this well written!
