this textbook is amazing, it has well written explanation of how to carry out a typical question, step by step, assuring knowledge in each one. This book was used as the main reference point for Maths A-Levels and is better than any other maths a levels books out there. i'm sure a beginner can pick up the mathematical concepts really well, by following the book!

I am a teacher of another subject who wanted to teach Maths and came to these as the standard text.
Some have criticised the graphical layout; I'm actually 48 and I find it really lovely and a REALLY BIG HELP in following the text. In my opinion, the use of colour and layout are imaginative, to the point and a complete positive.
It wouldn't be, if the content wasn't so good; this is light-years ahead of the irrelevant, stuffy books we had when I did my A Level #^* years ago - the authors focus very clearly on the syllabus - not surprising considering who they are. There is everything you need to teach yourself here.
Living in the real world as I do, I can say that there's more than enough to save you from a bad teacher which may be a CRITICAL difference to you.
My only criticism would be the splitting of materials between the enclosed CD and the book - why not put it all into the book? Nothing happens on the CD that couldn't have been done in the book, better, imho.

If you are studying for Edexcel AS/A2 Maths, then would recommend this series. All of the modular textbooks are written specifically for the modular syllabus and exams. Explanations/examples are clear and all answers are included.
Good Study aid, 2010-07-06
This is a very good study aid which my school recommend we use for our As and A level Maths - Easy to understand. Would recommend it to students begining their A levels.
