might as well be an affy ad, 2007-09-27 granted, there is some useful info in this book, and if you can scratch through all of the affymetrix centric expositions you might be able to find it. There is much more to high throuput bioinformatics analysis than the proprietary apporaches of this large company. Gentleman's book does precious little even to acknowledge these. If you are stuck in the only interested in the myopic, and problematic affy world then I suppose you will like this book. If you are interested in a briader range of statistical analysis I would recomend looking elsewhere.
If you do microarrays-- buy this., 2006-06-22 Honestly-- all the other Bioinformatics books of the past few years are rubbish. This is the only one that I've ever found of any practical use. It is vital if you are working with microarrays as the best methods are in Bioconductor and the code here is very useful.
Best bought together with
Modern Applied Statistics with S (Statistics & Computing S.) ~ W.N. Venables, B.D. Ripley -- unles you know R/S very well.
